Culture

So why did my parents make that long journey from the beautiful clear beaches of the pacific to Aotearoa???  Why did they leave the comforts of their "friendly island" only to struggle with a new language, new people, a new way of life? I could also ask the same thing about the British why did they move from the busy bustle of the commercial streets of England to a land with no infrastructure, proper economy and trees by the thousands? Or why did the Christopher Columbus travel far and wide in that big ship only to confront hunger, mutiny and  different sicknesses?
One thing they all have in common is that we all are in search of captivating that "dream"...journeying to seek our "pursuit of happiness"
But as we do this we come conflict with roadblocks and in my case a cultural clash. In and out of two different worlds. Growing up in a traditional conservative Tongan home, attending a  liberal primary school, faced with opposing teachings... I  didn't know which side to take...  confused child discerning between truth and error, or having to weigh for myself good better best alternatives.
